I’m boxing in a white collar event at The Troxy, Commercial Road, London on 14th December for mental health awareness.
I’m looking to raise money for Northwood Nursing Home, a thirty-five-capacity accommodation that suits a wide range of specialist care needs, being ideal for physical, mental and learning disabilities, including adults diagnosed with dementia.
One of the residents of the home is my mother. Over the years she has struggled with mental illness and Northwood has been great in supporting her through some very tough times.
We move into an age where mental illness is accepted by society and support networks continue to strengthen and grow. Personally this has been very well received.
Northwood Nursing home do an excellent job with the limited budgets they manage. Limited being the operative word.
Working with Rukayat Olasanya (Home Manager) I have committed to raising £2.5K for a new hoist. This is an assistive device that allows patients to be transferred between a bed and a chair or other similar resting places, by the use of electrical or hydraulic power. Sling lifts are used for patients whose mobility is limited. This is a number 1 priority on a very long list of equipment requirements for the home.
Training for this fight has been one of the hardest things I have ever experienced (well physically at least). Those who know me know how much of a challenge this has been. Any support, however small, would be greatly appreciated.
