Nora's Breast Cancer Fund

Donation protected
Mid-April of this year (2018), I was showering when I looked down and realized that the shape of my left breast was different than my right, and different than what I'm used to seeing. I then felt around and found a lump, roughly 2 inches across. From that moment on, time flew by. I went to an urgent care clinic the following day who then sent me for an ultrasound, mammogram, and eventually, a biopsy. After a week of tests, I was diagnosed with, what I now know as, Stage 3 Breast Cancer (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma). This came as a great shock to both me and my family, not only because of my age (27 y/o), but the fact that we have no family history of any type of cancer on either side.

This all happened during the last weeks of my final semester at the University of North Texas. My mother and father, ages 60 and 68 respectively, have been working tirelessly to help my younger sister and I get through college to graduate. During this time, I only worked every other weekend due to my school and family schedules. This has narrowed down to little/no working hours at the moment as I never know about my availability due to the doctor's appointments. I have been heavily relying on my parents to help me through this situation. This is the year we were hoping our parents would retire, as they each have a list of medical problems of their own.

Because of my age and the possible effects that chemotherapy may have on my body, I have had to undergo treatment through a fertility specialist to help ensure that I have a chance of creating a family when the time is right. Unfortunately, this is a treatment that is not covered by my insurance. I have also had many tests and procedures done since my diagnosis including multiple CT scans and ultrasounds due to the fact that after my initial MRI, my blood started clotting and those clots began to travel through my veins at a surprising rate.

I have been needing to lean on my parents both emotionally and financially during a period in time when they should be leaning on me.  Over the last two months, we have already had to spend thousands of unexpected dollars on tests and procedures. I have complete faith that God will provide for my family and me not only financially, but physically, emotionally, and mentally. He has provided me with a great, supportive family and group of friends. However, we have yet to receive bills for work we have had done and this is only the beginning of a long journey to recovery. Because of this, I am humbling requesting any help that God puts into your heart to lend me. With the donations received, I hope to take some of the financial burden off of my parents as we work through this as a family. Thank you for your love and support.
