OUR MISSION
"There Is No Other Name Inc.". is a 501c.3 non profit organization based in NY. Our goal is to end sex trafficking in the Dominican Republic, one child at a time.
CURRENTLY
There are an estimated 25,000 enslaved child prostitutes and 400 smuggling and trafficking rings in the Dominican Republic (DR). The UN reports that human trafficking is estimated to be a $9.5 billion industry in the DR; the highest in the Caribbean.
ABOUT ME
My name is Joel, I'm 36 years old and I've been traveling to the DR and Haiti since 2001. I have served on various types of missions teams...medical, evangelistic, and led building teams into Haiti.
Over the years I began to see the prostitution, openly practiced and never prosecuted, in the streets; apart from the safe resort areas. I have heard stories, and seen older men soliciting shoe-shine boys for sex with amounts of money a skilled worker couldn't earn in a month. This is my goal and dream: To save these children, and give them alternatives to a destructive lifestyle.
THE PLAN
We are in contract to purchase 35 acres of land in the countryside, away from the touristic, exploited areas. The land is extremely well laid out for a farm, and already has several mango, coconut, and plantain trees growing on it, along with 2 lakes, and 20 cattle. This will allow us to be a self sustaining organization within 2 years. We are calling ourselves an "Orphanage" to the locals to provide protection and anonymity both for the children, and the staff.
We will work with trained extraction teams that will enter the brothels, take the children, and bring them to our “Safe House”. There, we will provide psychological and physical healing in a protected environment. As the children heal, we will also provide them with an education to empower them with the life skills and support network necessary for them to succeed as they get older and begin lives on their own. We also desire to re-connect them with their families, where and when appropriate.
THE NEED
Through the generous donations of friends, families, and many anonymous gifts we have beenn able to purchase 2 reliable vehicles, and make a significant down payment on our land. Blueprints have already been developed to build the Safe House which can accommodate up to 30 children, 15 staff members, security team, and a medical clinic. Your support covers start-up expenses including:
-Closing cost associated with the land contract
-Labor and material cost to lay the foundation for the Safe House
-Legal expenses to establish a domicile for business operations
-Land preparation and crop purchase
-Vehicle expenses
