Noe Martinez Recovery Fund

On Friday, April 24, 2020, Noe Martinez, a 39-year-old shop foremen for a small independent cabinet company, was building cabinet doors for a job he was trying to complete. Noe was running a large door shaper when he caught his hand in the machine, which severed three of his fingers. He lost a massive amount of blood, but due to a fast response, the paramedics arrived on the scene within 10 minutes and were able to stop the bleeding and rush him to the hospital.

His thumb, index and middle finger were all affected. Noe had surgery on Saturday, April 25. Surgeons tried to save and reconstruct what they could. They were able to save the thumb but unfortunately had to amputate 25% of his index and middle fingers. All in all, the surgery was a big (but expensive) success, as there was a 50% chance of Noe losing his thumb and both fingers.

Noe is married and the father of three growing boys. Like so many others, COVID-19 had already put a financial stress on him to be able provide adequately for his loved ones. Now, in addition to having worked only a limited number of hours the last two months because of the coronavirus, Noe is facing mounting medical debt while trying to put food on his table and keep the lights on. He is unsure when he will be able to return to work, and even more worrisome, he is unsure what tasks he will be capable of doing in the shop once he returns to work. There is a lot of heavy lifting and machine operating, which is obviously not something he will be able to do for quite a while.
