Noah's YWAM Missions Trip

November 9, 2018

Dear friends and family,

This January I am excited and blessed to have the opportunity to serve with Youth With a Mission (YWAM), a ministry that trains and sends out short-term missionaries to be the hands and feet of Jesus in parts of the world in desperate need.  I would love to share this experience with you and ask that you partner with me on this faith-filled journey.

In the midst of my senior year of high school, with friends taking the SATs and visiting colleges, I was not confident that was what the right “next step” for me.  I considered many different options, including YWAM, but nothing seemed to resonate at the time.  It wasn’t until I starting asking the Lord what He wanted me to do that I realized how many barriers and restrictions I had created that limited what I was willing to do.  Once I released those and allowed God to lead me down the path He has created for me, it was as if He put YWAM in bright, blinking lights.  With that decided, I then had to figure out which one of the hundreds of locations around the world I should train in. Again, the Lord made His choice so obvious.   While on my church’s high school missions trip (Project Serve) this summer, I heard many people talk about the YWAM base in Orlando, FL where Project Serve helped build some of the infrastructure in years past.   After continuing to hear good things about the location for months after, I felt convinced this is where the Lord wanted me.

YWAM’s Discipleship Training School is a five month faith journey which includes three months of campus training and two months of outreach to serve in an area of the world most in need of seeing the love of Christ in action. The first three months of Discipleship Training School (DTS) will be spent in Orlando, and while there, my team will pray about where in the world the Lord wants us to serve in the second phase of DTS. During my time in Orlando, I will be studying more about God, growing my personal relationship with Him, and learning what it means to take the Great Commission to the nations.  The outreach phase will allow me to spend the last two months applying what I will have learned to serve others, and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to those in desperate need.  I am so excited to see what the Lord will teach me during the upcoming months.

As with any missions trip, there are funds that need to be raised to participate.  I am currently working at Hobby Lobby to earn part of the money, but I will still need partners to join me in spreading the Gospel to the nations.  If you are able to support me financially, that would be wonderful.  I understand that not everyone is able to do that, but your prayer partnership is equally needed.  In Luke 5:32, Jesus says, “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”  Given that we will be seeking the lost and the hurting to share the Good News of Jesus with, I have no doubt we will encounter darkness and uncomfortable situations.  Your prayers would mean the world to me.

To give you an idea of where the funds will be used, here is the cost that YWAM Orlando has given me for the five months of training and outreach:

CAMPUS PHASE:  $3,595

OUTREACH PHASE: $3,250 - $5,250 (includes airfare & visas)  I will have a better idea of the actual amount once it is determined where my team will go for our outreach.  Flying to and from Thailand costs a lot more than Haiti.

I will need to pay for my fees in stages, with my first payment (the campus fees) being due on January 1st.  Once the outreach fees are established, I will be paying the second installment.

Here are a few ways to get donations to YWAM:

Paypal: https://www.ywamorlando.com/payments/pay

Checks: You can send a check made payable to YWAM Orlando, and mail it to: YWAM Orlando, 15411 CR 455, Montverde, FL 34756.   Please put “For Noah Cowen” on the memo line, or include a note stating that.

GoFundMe: This option takes fees from each donation, so if you would like all of your donation to go to YWAM, the above two options are preferable.

Call in: Don't hesitate to call [phone redacted] and ask for accounting if you have any questions regarding the payment process

With all this said, please know that there is no pressure to give.  I understand that is not always possible. Your prayers will be treasured. I thank you, and appreciate your careful consideration and prayer in helping me fund and fulfill God’s call for me as I head out on this missions trip.

You can follow me on Facebook or Instagram as I journal my experiences throughout the upcoming months.

In Christ,

Noah Cowen

Ephesians 5:1-2

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Matthew 28:16-20

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
