Help Ponca the Protector recover!
Ponca is our sweet, energetic, protective weimaraner. She has been the best dog, so sweet to Cash and Charlee, sitting calmly while they pull her floppy ears and yank at her nub-of-a-tail.
Ponca has been with me since she was 6 weeks old. I'll never forget the day I went to choose my pup from the litter and she fell asleep standing up with her head propped on my leg. I knew right then she was NOT a boring dog; she had character and I had to have her! As a pup, she loved to cuddle, and was not your typical weimy. She was calm, and sweet, but always alert and ready to protect me as well.
There have been so many nights, especially in the last two years, where this girl has been my constant companion, making it bearable to come home to an empty house. (A house seems eerily quiet when your kids are gone!)
February 9 was such a pretty day that, when Ponca refused to come inside when I was leaving the house, I thought, "ok, she can enjoy the beautiful weather and play with the cat all day!" When the kids and I came home and opened the back door, Ponca dragged herself into the house by her front feet. Her back legs were completely non-functioning. It was terrifying. A CT confirmed that it was her spine and they would need to operate. It was a lot of money but there was not really even a choice; she had been such a loving, faithful companion, I knew we had to save her life!!
Ponca came home on February 17, and later that night began to bleed-- a lot. Thankfully, we got it under control after several hours, and Ponca had to return to the vet until February 26.
Since coming home, Ponca has begun to heal and is walking fairly well, considering the circumstances. She has to be kept in a kennel for 5-6 more weeks, as she doesn't know her limitations; she has the spirit of a pup! The vet called her "extremely lively" ...And that is why I made the choice I did.
Ponca means so much to this family. And any support in covering the cost of her surgery and meds is greatly appreciated!! We all thank you, especially Ponca!
