No Frills Metestatic Breast Cancer Research

1 in 8 women will develope breast cancer. This stat is also old and outdated the number is higher I assure you. I know 8 women in my own circle that have had breast cancer. What alot of early stage women don't know is that 20 to 30 percent of early stagers will go on to become stage 4 or metestatic. I was diagnosed de novo meaning from the start with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 38 I have a 3 yr old little boy. There currently is no cure. The available stats show that the 5 year survival for stage 4 breast cancer is 22 percent.
Ipromised myself that I would be part of that 22 percent. Some patients are living longer thanks to new research, clinical trials and meds. Stage 4 breast cancer patients will be on some form of chemo (oral or iv) for the rest of their lives. We will be on these meds until they stop working and move on to the next drug and the next until we are out of options. Some patients are lucky enough to become NED (no evidence of disease) this does not equal cure. This just means the cancer in your body is sleeping and giving you a little break. For most the cancer will wake up again and spread. Many people assume breast cancer is an older person's disease this is not the case. Breast cancer is becoming such an epidemic that hospitals are designing programs specifically for those under 40. Stage 4 breast cancer needs more attention ,more research, more options. We are dying, 40,000 deep per year if you want a number. We are supposed to be having the time of our lives and we are dying one by one because there are not enough options for stage 4 breast cancer patients. Canada has established a dream team dedicated to stage 4 breast cancer. I want to help them continue their research for life saving medications and procedures. Please help me by donating. I want to watch my little boy grow up as do many of the patients with MBC. When you are tucking your littles into bed or spending time with your family please think of those that may have limited time with theirs.
