Imagine waking up with numbness & tingling in your lower left leg thinking it was a pinched nerve only to be diagnosed shortly after with MS.
Amanda was healthy before August 28th 2017. She was working as a nurse, and was enjoying her career while raising her 3 beautiful daughters when her world was turned upside down. The numbness and tingling turned into weakness, and then quickly progressed to her entire left side from her head to her toes. An MRI confirmed the diagnosis of MS, and Amanda began her fight to become the person she was just a couple weeks before. She had several treatments of IV Steroids, Plasma Exchange, and IVIG with no results.
Her next option was a brain biopsy to see why she was not responding to any form of treatment. Amanda was taken from Sanford Hospital as a direct admit to the Mayo Hospital. After the brain biopsy Amanda was diagnosed with a rare form of MS called Tumefactive MS. Amanda has returned to Sanford to undergo more plasma exchanges, and start chemo to try to reduce the inflammation.
Amanda is currently in inpatient rehab 3 hrs a day to regain full strength on her left side, and in hopes that her life can get back to her new "normal" with her 3 girls.
Last week Amanda was struck another blow. In addition to the stress of trying to regain strength and return to her girls, the kid's father had Amanda served with custody papers in the hospital. Amanda and her family had to retain an attorney and are now working on fighting a court battle.
Close to 2 months of being in the hospital, Amanda remains optimistic things will become normal for her and for her girls. With the amazing support of her family, who have taken care of the girls these last 2 months, they have been able to visit their mom daily.
