Nicholas Lamendola Scholarship Fund

When my dad passed away in 2001 at the age of 61, we began the Nicholas Lamendola Memorial Scholarship fund as a way to preserve his memory, and to carry on his legacy of supporting scholar-athletes at River Dell High School in Oradell, NJ.
Beginning in 2002, the Nicholas Lamendola Memorial Scholarship has given at least one scholarship each year to a graduating River Dell senior. The ideal candidate is a student-athlete who lettered in at least one varsity sport, and is known to students, teammates and teachers as hardworking, and a team player. A student-athlete of exceptional character and one who exudes true sportsmanship is given the highest regard. Our family works with the scholarship committee at River Dell to select the most appropriate candidate each year, and whenever possible, a member of our family attends the annual award event at River Dell to personally award the scholarship.
To date, we have awarded 18 scholarships and nearly $40,000 in scholarship money to deserving scholar-athletes, and hope to continue the awards for many years to come. NLMS winners have attended public and private colleges, both near and far, and have gone on to become teachers, nurses, financial advisors and analysts, sports broadcasters, directors of corporate communications and more.
The fund has been supported exclusively through donations. We began at Dad's funeral by asking for donations to the fund in lieu of flowers, and we've continued to grow the fund through various fundraising activities. During the recession, we ceased active fundraising out of respect to those who were suffering financially. But now the fund is running low and we fear that we will not be able to continue generously supporting these deserving students for more than the next few years.
We gratefully accept all donations, no matter the size. Money raised here will go directly to the Nicholas Lamendola Memorial Scholarship Fund, administered by River Dell High School in Oradell, NJ.
