Nikki RN’s Cancer Battle

Nikki, an Emergency Room Nurse, has just learned she has Hurthle Cell Cancer. It is a very rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer that can spread to the lymph nodes, lungs, and bones. Complications can include difficulty breathing and swallowing (which Nikki has).
Nikki is a single mom of three kiddos - aged 16, 14, & 2. She just moved to the North Atlanta area from Florida and has had one blow after another since relocating.
Nikki realized something was wrong when she began losing weight. Within a month or two of joining our Night Shift Crew in the ER, we were all asking for the secret to her drastic weight loss. She shook her head, said she wasn't doing anything different, but she thought maybe she had Hyperthyroidism. She saw a doctor, had loads of tests performed, and finally received the devastating diagnosis of Cancer.
At first, Nikki wanted to fight privately. She told our bosses because she knew she would have to take time off for treatment and ultimately surgery. Finally, when she had been on oral chemo to try to shrink the cancer enough to operate and her hair started to thin, she had an epiphany ... she decided to open up and share her fight because she realized her battle might be an opportunity to touch others lives.
In addition to the Cancer diagnosis, her car died and isn't worth the repair cost, she is taking Uber to work which is costing over $70/shift, she is walking to the grocery store, her baby has been sick, and her savings has been zapped by one emergency after another leaving her with no down-payment on a car!
Long story short ... we have convinced Nikki to allow us to take our fund-raising efforts outside our Emergency Room.
Nikki needs money NOW.
OUR FIRST GOAL IS TO GET HER INTO A CAR! As an ER Nurse Nikki needs a vehicle that can get her to work safely in all weather, so an AWD or 4WD would be preferred. As a mom of 3 kids, she needs safety, cargo/trunk space, etc. As a single mom, a new car with a fabulous warranty would go a long way toward alleviating some of her worries - but this is *MY* dream for her.
OUR SECOND GOAL IS TO HELP FINANCE HER CANCER FIGHT! The treatment for Hurthle Cell Cancer includes Chemotherapy, Radiation, & surgery to remove her thyroid. Nikki hasn't worked for HCA long enough to have much PTO built up and she will need financial help when she has to take off work for surgery and other treatments. She has health insurance, but there will be deductibles and other things that aren't covered. Our goal is to raise enough that she doesn't have to worry about anything but getting better. This cancer is a bad one and we want all her energy going toward her fight.
