About the Charities:

➢ Team Foster is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity organization founded in honor of Captain Erick Foster (KIA) that raises money to provide service dogs for injured and disabled Veterans. https://www.teamfoster.org. (Incorporated as Captain Erick Foster Memorial Ride, d/b/a Team Foster).

➢ Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) a 501(c)3 non-profit charity that provides financial assistance to thoroughbred and quarter horse jockeys who have sustained catastrophic on-track injuries. http://www.pdjf.org

Why Am I Doing This:

I have a special interest in these two organizations. I hope through this challenge I can bring awareness to each of their missions. With the help of sponsors sharing this challenge, we have an opportunity to not only meet but exceed the fundraising goal I have set.

I am a professional thoroughbred jockey and know the risks of this profession. I love this sport and have the opportunity to work with horses every day. Unfortunately, injuries are unavoidable. Most of us will rehab and return to ride again. But for others who have suffered catastrophic injuries like paralysis and brain injuries, they will not be able to return to ride. It is these men and women the PDJF assist that I want them to know they are not forgotten. As a fellow jockey, I am honored to run for them.

I also come from a family who has served our country. My grandfather served in the Korean War, my aunt served in the US Army, and my sister served in Afghanistan as a Marine. My sister has lost friends to PTSD, so I believe wholeheartedly in Team Foster and their mission. These service dogs literally save lives.

As a jockey, an OTTB (Off the Track Thoroughbred) owner, and the proud dad of two Rottweilers— I, too, have a love for animals and understand how beneficial even an untrained animal can be as companions to Veterans or anyone else who are going through difficult times.

My Personal Goal and Challenge

This wil be a fun event that I hope will inspire others. My initial goal is to raise $48,000: $1,000 for each mile that I run for the PDJF and Team Foster. However, if this gains traction and we and we are approaching the $48,000 goal by the second day I am open to running further. I would be honored if I could run 1 mile that is equal to the current number of permanently disabled jockeys, which is 58.
