Nightmare Central for Spider& Anita

Donation protected
The work on the stoves and chimney is done.  The building inspectors were here and approved everything.   "Very impressed," they said.  Our house is warm & safe, and we are grateful.  We send heartfelt thanks to all of you -- I don't know what we would have done without your gracious and generous help. Sending love, Anita and Spider  The work is almost done, and, pending approval by the building supervisor, Friday we will be able to run the wood stoves again.  Our deepest thanks go out to all of you who have helped us through this cold crisis.  We are very lucky to have such wonderful friends and neighbors! With our love,         Spider and Anita UPDATE I will be ending the donation period Sunday night. The estimated cost of the completed work is still at $10,000 and between our communities generosity and the not so generous insurance payout we are close to covering the estimate. Thank you all. Lois THE BEGINNING They have had three chimney fires in 10 days.  The first caused the chimney to be shut down by the Building Department with the permission to use the second woodstove/chimney for heat. Then the third chimney fire happened and they were told to not use either wood stove. Since they have no source of heat other than their woodstoves, it was recommended that they get space heaters.  Anita went to Loew’s and bought two heaters, telling the salesperson the dimensions of the two rooms.  They are now sitting in the kitchen which is 58 degrees and the living room is 62 degrees.  They are bundled up, but VERY COLD AND MISERABLE. Anita has been working diligently with her insurance company who she has been paying for 37 years.  At the insurance company’s direction she has had two inspectors come (charging $125 and $240 respectively) who went on the roof, put a camera up the chimney, etc.  Both found that the chimney will need to be replaced and new liners and pipes must be installed.  Neither felt the Insurance company would pay for the chimney work and their policy has a $1000 deductible.  A third inspector will come tomorrow.  The bottom line so far is that they estimated the work will cost $18,000 which they do not have. It is unknown what the insurance company will pay or when.  We are setting the goal at $10,000 to cover the chimney work and their deductible.  First things first, that needs to be done even if they decide to have an oil burner installed. In the meantime they are cold, miserable and depressed.
