Nick's Soggy House

Hurricane Harvey severely damaged my home and destroyed my rental property in Galveston County, Texas, leaving myself living in a ruin and four tenants homeless.  The total damage estimate is on the order of $180,000.00.  FEMA is providing just under $10,000.00.  I am looking for enough funding to secure a contractor and restore both properties to a livable condition as soon as possible, in anticipation of the housing shortage that will result in the area shortly.

I've rented rooms in my home as well as purchased the rental property specifically to provide housing to folks at reasonable prices, it was my pleasure to help out in my community.  Losing the business hurts, but seeing my tenants homeless hurts even more.

Anything you donate will go towards:
1.  Initial demolition (mostly complete by volunteer labor from UTMB)
2.  Cleaning/mold mitigation
3.  Restoration of walls (we have volunteer labor lined up but lack funds for materials and materials).
4.  Restoration of utilities
5.  Replacement of appliances (most are salvageable, but replacement costs are rising as viable used and scratch/dent deals are essentially nonexistent at this point.)
6.  Basic trim/finishes - woodwork, doors, paint, and flooring.

Anything in excess of my needs will go directly to neighbors that were identically affected.  In both neighborhoods, debris lines the street, mountains of prized possessions reduced to so much scrap.

The sooner we get the funds, the faster we can rebuild.  The support the gulf coast of Texas has gotten so far has been amazing, and we cannot emphasize enough how much we appreciate everything everyone in the country has been doing to support us.  As contractors get lined up and material needs are identified, withdrawals from this campaign will be used to pay the associated costs.

Update:  A significant source of drywall is reportedly being donated, details are sketchy but it's possible all of the drywall needs will be taken care of, will post pictures if it shows up.

It is not in my nature to ask for help, but I am no longer in a position to indulge in the fantasy that this can be handled on my own.

None of the funds will go toward "contents" such as furniture or clothing.  This is strictly to restore habitability.
