Nick Albano Memorial Scholarship

Nicholas James Albano of Webster, New York graduated Niagara University in 2016 with a degree in psychology. He went on to pursue a Master’s degree in school counseling. Unfortunately, Nicholas also struggled with an epilepsy disorder, and in August of 2017, passed away due to complications related to it.
During his time at Niagara University, Nick dedicated much of his time to raising awareness about mental health. He served as the president of Active Minds, a campus club that fought the stigma linked to mental health issues. Additionally, he was extremely active in raising awareness of sexual assault, domestic violence, and the mental illnesses that are linked to these issues.
For Christmas 2016, he was given the DSM5 (The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), and was elated. Nick loved learning about psychological issues, long after he graduated and discontinued psychology classes at Niagara.
Nick’s girlfriend, along with countless friends of his, have begun to work towards a goal to create a Niagara University psychology scholarship in his name. Nick would have loved nothing more than to give back to the psychology department and help a student pursuing a psychology degree.
Nick’s legacy can be described simply. He didn’t just love Captain America...he was viewed by everyone he knew as a real-life superhero...a man who would fight for what was right and just, no matter how many personal sacrifices he had to make. He was a friend of the world. Together, we can help his legacy live on and help future Niagara University psychology students reach the same goal that, though his life was short, Nick actually succeeded in -- changing people’s lives.
