Nic Burt is 36 years old and is at the Nebraska Medical Center waiting for his 3rd liver transplant. If you have ever known anyone that has had a liver transplant, you would know that one has to be near death as your body begins to shut down before you move to the top of the waitlist.

Nic has been in Omaha since September and has put up such a heroic fight as his liver continues to fail, causing numerous infections, blood clots, fevers, pain, tremendous swelling in his legs caused by fluids that makes it difficult to walk - yet he has been a trooper and doing as the doctors tell him which is walking 4 to 6 times a day...until 2 days ago. Nic was having difficulty breathing and his blood pressure dropped dangerously low. His kidneys are beginning to shut down and he is fighting off yet another infection. They moved him to ICU where he is currently unconscious and intubated. They handled the low blood pressure but unfortunately since he's on a respirator, he's no longer at top of the list. He has to be breathing on his own to receive the transplant.

His father Ken has been with him since before Thanksgiving rarely leaving his side, sleeping in his room, helping him take his walks and tend to anything Nic might need. His mother Judy sends them care packages from Montana filled with snacks, goodies and LOVE. Nic is a single father and his boy’s mother is not in the picture. His mom has been at home in Montana caring for Nic’s two little boys who miss their Daddy so much and talked to him daily until 2 days ago. Ethan just turned 7 last week and Alex is 3. They have had Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays without their Daddy. Nic’s mother has her hands full trying to fill in for Nic, preschool, grade school, counselors, doctors, mentors, baking cupcakes for school, planning birthday parties. Ethan needs medicine for ADD and OD and has frequent meltdowns at school fearing that his Daddy is never coming home. Ken hasn't worked since he left in the fall and the expenses have added up. Judy and the boys are flying to Nebraska to be with Nic and Ken tomorrow morning. This money will go to Ken and Judy to help purchase airline tickets, hotel room, meals, to care for the boys and for expenses that have already accrued since Nic has gotten sick.
