Baluchistan Flood Relief

Pakistan has more than 7253 known glaciers and contains more glacial ice than any other country on earth outside the polar regions. This makes Pakistan very vulnerable to climate related disasters even though the country itself contributes to less than 1% of the global greenhouse gas emissions.

Every year, there are rains in the region in Jul-Aug (monsoon season) when there's rainfall averaging about 255 millimeters in each of these months. This year monsoon started early and Pakistan has received 8x more rainfall than usual. The heavy rain continues to fall and has created havoc in the country in the form of floods. This is the worst it has ever been.

1/3 of Pakistan is currently under water. The country is facing far more than a national emergency, but a humanitarian catastrophe with more than 33 million people affected, 1 million homes destroyed.

One of the most affected areas in these floods is the country's poorest province Baluchistan (my home province). Majority of people live in mud houses and the entire villages have been swept away by water. The number of displaced people is increasing everyday and they need urgent help at this time.

My family is currently in Quetta (capital of Baluchistan) and helping out as much as they can. My brother and his friends are on ground doing assessments and and providing support to survivors in villages that are not accessible to government or NGOs providing relief work. They are collecting funds to provide immediate help in the form of food supplies, tents, medicine kits etc. Please help support this cause. Climate change is real and it could affect any of us.
