Next Level Cricket Academy Start-Up

Next Level Cricket Academy (NLCA) aims to instill a sense of self-confidence in young girls and women through cricket. By improving technique, game awareness, tactics and mental toughness we seek to enable our players to progress both on and off the field. Based on our own experiences me and co-founder, Kira Chathli, Surrey Women's Cricketer, feel boys and young men have access to a higher level of coaching  from a younger age. Through NLCA we plan to balance the field of play. Our objective is to offer courses with specialist coaches at a reduced player to coach ratio, to allow individual analysis of skills whilst providing an enjoyable yet challenging environment.

As part of our commitment we will be looking to offer bursary opportunities for those players less able to afford the full costs of our programme, as we believe everyone should have the opportunity to reach their potential.

Kira Chathli’s cricketing career began, as so many do, watching and playing with family and friends. Having attended an introductory course aged 8 Kira was encouraged by Ebony Rainford-Brent to trial for Surrey County U11’s Girls team. Enjoying the benefits of the high-quality coaching at Surrey Kira’s continuous progression has led to 41 appearances for Surrey Women’s 1st XI, including match winning performances in 2020’s London Cup vs Middlesex.

Alongside her own career Kira has been coaching for Dulwich Cricket Club since she was 17 and holds the ECB Level Two qualification. Now, as Head of Women’s and Girls Cricket at the club Kira looks to encourage more girls to take up and enjoy the sport she loves.

Sebastián began hitting fours and sixes in the back garden with his older brother at their home in Dulwich. Formal coaching and games began a few years later at school, aged 8. Each season saw Seb improve his bowling, batting, fielding and game awareness, culminating in the securing of his place in the Dulwich College 1st XI.

At the same time as playing for school Sebastián was a member of his local club, Dulwich Cricket Club. Playing in Development and Academy teams. In addition, Sebastian has been assisting with coaching since he was 17. Having acquired his Foundation 1 Coaching Qualification, he is eager to use his experience and knowledge to further develop grass roots cricket by helping players fulfill their potential, giving them greater opportunities to reach higher standards. It is this desire which has led Sebastian to co-found The Next Level Academy.

In order to achieve our objectives, we are seeking the initial capital required to meet the costs of coaching equipment, including a professional bowling machine, and setting up our own environmentally friendly website.

In summary, with your help, Next Level Cricket Academy will offer bespoke, personalised coaching to young women, enabling them to progress to the next stages in their cricketing careers whilst also providing important life skills which will benefit them beyond the sporting arena.
