My name is Evan Hopkins and I am the President of the Newmarket Soccer Club. The Newmarket Soccer Club is a not-for-profit club providing soccer programming for all ages and levels, in a fun and positive environment since 1960.
As I am sure many of you reading this know, 2020 has proven to be a challenging year due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a daily struggle to keep our club afloat financially, while striving to provide soccer programming that meets health and safety guidelines.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic affecting all facets of our daily lives and business, we had to unfortunately make the difficult decision to cancel our house league programming. Please know that we are committed to providing refunds to our members, many of whom are also finding financial difficulty during this trying time.
Unlike many other clubs, the Newmarket Soccer Club owns our indoor facility (Newmarket Soccer Centre) which is used to provide programming not only for our members but for other outside soccer and baseball clubs. Our facility is also used and rented out by schools and town camps throughout the year. This is no longer the case. Additionally, we had to cancel our annual summer Heart of York Tournament, one of the largest tournaments in the province. These events, programming and facility rentals were a major source of income for the club that now ceased to exist, for the time being.
We want to ensure our club and facility remain a key fixture in the Newmarket community for the years to come, so we are looking for you to kindly contribute anything you can in the form of a donation to help us through this tough time. Your donation will assist us in bridging the gap for when we can return to play, and that is extremely important for us, as we want nothing more than to be there for you and your family in the future.
