Newlyweds with breast cancer

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Amy. I’m 31-years-old and I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer). My husband and I received this diagnosis 9 months into our marriage, 4 months after finally securing my Spousal Visa so I wouldn’t get deported, and 1 week into our house move.

We were married without any family present, we never got a honeymoon, we don’t even have rings. We have had to make decisions no newlyweds should have to make.

Unfortunately, chemotherapy is going to damage my ovaries so much that we may never be able to naturally conceive a child. IVF was not an option as oestrogen injections would grow my cancer. The UK government also doesn’t allow a person on a Spousal Visa the right to IVF - even when married to a British citizen and with a cancer diagnosis.

My family live in Australia, and doing this without them is excruciating. I’ve lost all my autonomy and agency. I can’t work, and half the time I can barely walk. We are now living on one income in a cost of living crisis.

I’m fundraising to give my husband and I a little bit of breathing room to get through this horrible time (and hopefully minimise the total loss of our savings in the process). Anything you wish to contribute is overwhelmingly generous and kind. Thank you for reading.
