We are the Newcastle Nighthawks!
We are raising money to develop our facilities at Gosforth Sport Association as part of our ambitious plans for the growth of baseball in the north east as well as in the UK as a whole.
After starting out as just four people throwing a ball around on Nuns Moor two years ago, we have gone on to establish ourselves as an esteemed part of the UK baseball scene; winning the Northern Baseball League Single A Playoff Championship in our first league season. As we take the next steps to solidify the team and sport in Newcastle, we are developing our ground, not just to create facilitates befitting of a higher division, but also to accommodate our upcoming youth programme. With the money raised we are not only looking to build a permanent backstop and give the pitch some much needed TLC, we are also hoping to buy a junior starter kit so younger members of the community can come enjoy the benefits of the sport too.
While we enjoyed an unprecedented amount of success on the field, we truly believe that our biggest achievements have come elsewhere. Dubbed as 'Britain's inclusive baseball club', we have welcomed over 50 players into our ranks since our formation, with men and women joining us from all walks of life. We are incredibly proud of the environment we have created to foster players in their personal and collective development. As part as our offer to the local community, we provide highly qualified coaching staff, who's efforts have been recently recognised at the 2020 British Baseball and Softball Coaching Awards, where Stu Taylor was a Baseball Adult Coach of the Year nominee.
Being a part of the local community is important to us and we want to give something back; supporting others where we can. Over the last two years we have joined forces with Change Grow Live and Gateshead Evolve by providing equipment for their annual Recovery Rounders match. The provision of better facilities only increases our ability to continue to support such worthy causes.
