Newcastle has no approved facility to allow advanced road coaching of youth riders apart from an unused section of Newburn Riverside Business Park. We have a circuit consisting of 2 large roundabouts connected by a single highway road, .44 miles in length.
To the east of the section is a dual carriageway section, gated at one end which allows access to the facility. This limits use of this part which, if we were able to make use of it, would double the length of the circuit.
Since 2014 we have run coaching sessions under a yearly licence agreement with Homes England, the landowner of the Business Park to allow us to fully comply with all insurance legislation to create a safe and secure venue. Homes England are not willing to grant a licence longer than year in case the land is sold
We have been working with Homes England to develop the facility further and have come to an agreement that we can remove a section of the central reservation near the gate to allow a continuous loop of .8 miles. The work, which includes kerb alterations and a bond to reinstate the reservation should we ever discontinue the sessions has been approved and should be able to take place shortly after payment is made in time for this years sessions which commence on Wednesday evenings in April.
While any development at Bullocksteads is possibly 3 years away, developing what we have now will enable us to continue with the programme we've been running for 6 years now and has allowed many to enjoy their sport at a competitive level and even assisted several riders to achieve their aim of a professional career. Even so this will allow us to continue what we do without restriction or co-ordinating with other user groups.
Our bid is made up of a sum of £1240 + Vat for the work and a bond of £450 + Vat for reinstatement
