New Orleans Family displaced, Emergency Help

Hi. Late Thursday evening my Aunt, Uncle, and younger cousin’s apartment caught fire and they are now displaced.

My Aunt and Uncle have been asking their complex to fix issues for years, going back and forth with management about the poor conditions in their unit which includes flooding, lack of hot water (for nearly two years) and black mold and all requests have gone either unanswered or haphazardly fixed. For instance, upon asking for help with mold the apartment management would simply paint over it. My Uncle has Graves’ disease so this entire situation has caused a lot of stress for him, along with my aunt who also has health issues and is on several medications. Their story was recently covered by Channel 4 News.

William Pitts, now retired, was a valued member of the Orleans Parish Sheriffs department and is on a fixed income.
