New instruments for The Wandering Bard

We are The Wandering Bard, an innovative early music and folk music ensemble that tells stories during our performances. The stories we tell are called Musical Narratives. They fit between the pieces we play and with them we build an arch around a repertoire of music that we put together. This is a unique approach and re-contextualises often well known music to be heard in a form that otherwise might not be imagined. 


We like Early Music compositions and we often include them in our repertoire, but to achieve the sound that would better convey this style of music to you, our audience, we need to have different instruments. Currently, we are playing our music on modern instruments; the violin and the classical guitar, but to improve our music making for you, we need instruments that sound closer to what would have been played at the time of the compositions we perform, namely a vihuela and vielle. Luckily, these instruments are still being made by luthiers today, and can help us to capture the sound qualities of early music. That’s where you come in; we have commissioned a master luthier to craft us these special instruments, and all we need is 3000 euros to pay for them.
