New Floor for our Museum
More than 40 million people in the United States have German roots! The German American Heritage Foundation and Museum in Washington, DC has been telling your stories since March 2010.
Starting with the arrival of the first German immigrant, Dr. Johannes Fleischer, in Jamestown, the first settlement in the Colony of Virginia in 1607 to the present day, we chronicle the many achievements and contributions to American culture and life. From culinary delights, such as beer and bratwurst, architecture, art, chemistry, entertainment, the creation of Hollywood to medicine and technology, German-speaking immigrants have changed the way we live.
History is not everything, but it's important to know and learn from the past to understand where we are going. It's been a tough year for all of us. Never before has there been such a critical need for nonprofits to receive vital donations and gifts to continue their missions. Our exhibit hall in the historic Hockemeyer Hall , once the residence of a prominent German immigrant, needs a new floor. The current carpet is 11 years old, and has seen much wear and tear. It's permanently stained and frayed. Not exactly a great backdrop to the people whose ingenuity and hard work we want to honor. Won't you pitch in with a few dollars to help us get a sustainable and long-lasting floor?
All donors who give $50 or more will be commemorated on our Website (www.gahmusa.org) and those who give $1,000 or more will be listed on a special plaque in our exhibit hall, which houses both our permanent exhibit chronicling German immigration and special exhibits. All donors at the $100 or above level will also be invited to a special reception with members of our board and the executive director. Every donation matters, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Thank you for your support!
