Mzuka Youth Development Association (MYODA) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization providing free tuition to the children of the district of Kibaha in Tanzania. Its owner, Obedy Kuguru welcomed me for a period of three months in his home to become a part of this amazing project. The school was founded in 2003 and since then, grew accordingly to the demand of the region for such service and is now considered a pillar in the community.
The mission of the organization consists of offering the best conditions for children to learn and grow in a propitious environment. Therefore, all essential needs such as uniforms, pencils and exercise books are provided for the children. Moreover, every day, porridge is served as a snack and different traditional African meals are offered for lunch to ensure students can stay concentrated and may have at least one meal every day.
The Tanzanian government does not accord any type of subvention to this type of organization. Therefore, they have to rely on donations for the subsistence of the school. Money ammassed covers the expenses that permit access to basic education to all children while remaining a free service.
Two of the four classrooms are currently overloaded. While trying to respond to the need of accessible education for young children, we are confronted to overcrowding. A total of 175 students aged between 3 y/o and 7 y/o are now attending the school, most of them coming from underprivileged families.
To respond to the increasing amount of children joining the school, we are building an extension to the current installation; we will count five new classrooms and toilet facilities. Unfortunately, due to the lack of funds to purchase rough material and to pay employees, the construction can’t proceed at the expected and desired pace.
The funds raised with this campaign will mainly serve to finish the building of the new classrooms. To do so, we need to purchase: 15 windows, 5 doors, 85 bags of cement to cover the floors and the walls, 10 big paint buckets. If there is to be any remaining money, it will serve to pay the salary of our dedicated teachers and employees, to purchase diverse school supplies and furniture, and food for the children.
Every dollar in this campaign will make a difference in a children’s life. Be sure they are grateful for every single opportunity and privilege offered to them. We ask you, in all humility, to take 5 minutes of your day to fund our project with any contribution you can afford.
All our team is very thankful for the chance we have to positively contribute in our youth’s development.
We are also very thankful for every donation towards the organization.
