Nestor's emergency vet costs

Dear friends and family,

Our beloved, cheeky, adventurous Nestor has  suddenly fallen very ill. What looked like a case of a bad mouse and a tummy ache at first is now an unknown threat to his health: he is lethargic, has not eaten for 35 hours (update Friday: he has not eaten by himself for 4 days), and has a high fever (update Friday: fever is now lower). Our vet has referred us to the animal ER, because of a risk that he will go into shock and die.


We need to find out as soon as possible what is causing him to be so sick. The tests alone costs a lot of money, and we have no idea what the treatment would be nor what it would cost.

We have an emergency care fund for him of about $1000 per year, but we have already used all of that for the vet costs at his normal vet. The ER says that the testing they will need to do (blood work, ultrasound, overnight monitoring, IV fluids etc.) will run into several thousands of dollars.

(Update Friday: we have spent $2090 so far at the ER and regular vet for emergency care, IV, medications, overnight monitoring, X-rays and blood-work, we are considering to do an ultrasound, which is ca. $500)


Our little brave tiger means the world to us - and we often hear how much other people love him coming to visit their garden, or just to see him run the parks and gardens of Amsterdam and Chicago. If you can miss just a tiny amount to help us in our quest to find out what is making him ill, we would appreciate it so so much.

And I'm sure Nestor would be happy to do his little butt wiggle or for you when he is feeling better again, or show off his other cool tricks (for example giving paw- as shown below).
