In Shaun's Memory - For Nenagh Athletics Club

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know our much loved family member Shaun Hilmi sadly passed away on the 2nd January aged just 17. He had fought a truly heart-breaking battle against Ewings Sarcoma, leaving us all utterly heartbroken.

Shaun's passion was Athletics and cruelly what was thought to be an injury from this much loved past time turned out to be his families worst nightmare when in May last year he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ewings Sarcoma, a rare childhood cancer of the body tissue which affects just 3 in every 1 million children.

Shaun fought and fought with so many of you at the time helping to fund what we hoped was his road to recovery, but in the end God decided it was time that Shaun gained his angel wings and on the 2nd January the family were left truly bereft when Shaun passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those who adored him.

But Shaun has inspired us all with his courage and determination. From his hospital bed he encouraged Caitlin to start running, giving her lots of training tips and she completed her first organised 10k in her best friends memory on the 31st January. Since then there is no stopping her and this determination has encouraged us all to get our running shoes on.

So on Sunday 2nd May in memory of our beautiful Shaun, the Sammon family aged from 4 to 64 will attempt to run 10k with our youngest members taking up the challenge on their bikes. There will be family participating from Australia, America, Leeds, London, the Isle of Wright, and Ireland.

But Caitlin, driven no doubt by Shaun, is taking the challenge to the next level and is running a HALF MARATHON (the girl that couldn't even run 1k in October) supported by her Dad Dave, her Uncle Michael and cousin Mikey.

Any donations in lieu of our efforts would be greatly appreciated and will be given to Nenagh Athletics Club where Shaun spent most of his spare time.
These clubs are fundamental in our children's development and rely heavily on fundraising events to survive.
We would really love to leave a lasting legacy at a place he loved by those who loved him.

Thank you for taking the time to read Shaun's story.

Lots of love, The Sammon Family x
