Please help us raise money to bring Javed and his family to Canada.

We never thought a friend of ours would become a refugee, but Javed is in that position now, and we are asking for your help to get him and his family out of harm's way and into safety to make a new life here in Canada.

Javed worked for a small NGO that built playgrounds for boys and girls. And because sometimes he would pick up materials for those playgrounds from American military bases, he was a target for the Taliban. He fled for his life with his family – his wife, his two daughters and his youngest brother.

Javed and his family have made it out of Afghanistan, and we've helped them flee as far as Pakistan, but their situation there is precarious, and their journey to get there was genuinely terrifying.

Please join us, donate, and help us bring Javed’s family to Canada.

1. Who we are and where we are from:

We are the Nelson Friends of Afghan Refugees, a group of friends, neighbours and community members in Nelson BC who want to bring this family to safety here in Canada. We have been approved by the Anglican Diocese of Kootenay to sponsor an Afghan refugee family.

2. Our relationship to the parties we're raising funds for:

Bill Lynch has been friends with Javed and his family for 24 years, visiting them several times in their home.

3. Our plan to send the funds to the intended recipients, and their names:

The funds required for their settlement here in Canada will be held by the Anglican Diocese of Kootenay. The funds required for their maintenance while they await their approval by Canadian Authorities will be sent directly to Javed Ahmad and his family in Pakistan.

4. How the funds will be spent:

The funds will be spent to support Javed’s family when they arrive in Canada - for housing, food, clothing, medical, transportation, and other expenses. A portion of the funds will also be used to maintain the family while they await approval from the Canadian Immigration Authorities. In the unlikely event that Javed and his family cannot arrive in Canada, the Anglican Church Diocese guarantees that the funds will be used for another deserving refugee family, or families, already on the Diocese’s approved list of refugees.
