El Salvador communities are in dire need of help right now. A country that is already affected by extreme poverty, El Salvador has been under a strict, government-enforced stay-at-home order due to covid19, leaving people without the possibility to work and access food and medications. To make matters worse, the massive tropical storm Amanda made landfall over the weekend, flooding rivers and destroying homes and property of people who are already facing starvation.
Among the many affected, there are approximately ~350 families living in San Jerónimo Los Planes and Santa Isabel, Nejapa in El Salvador - two small communities on the volcano that are right on the border of La Libertad and San Salvador. The only basic service they have is electric light - they don't even have drinking water. The reality of these communities is very harsh and they need a lot of help, more so during these times.
We ask for your help in donating whatever you can (every dollar helps) to support these communities. The funds from your donations will be used for food and other needs to help improve the inhabitants' living situation, helping them get fed and stay warm. We are wiring the money to our team members in El Salvador so that they can buy food supplies to distribute to the families. Additionaly, another part of the money will be allocated to buying construction supplies (tin sheets, wood, latrines, etv) to help the most unfortunate families in the two communities rebuild (or fix) their houses and ensure they are sheltered.

Las comunidades de El Salvador necesitan ayuda urgente. Un país que ya está afectado por pobreza extrema, El Salvador ha estado bajo una estricta orden de cuarentena domiciliar debido a covid19, dejando a las personas sin la posibilidad de trabajar y acceder a alimentos y/ó medicamentos. Para empeorar las cosas, la tormenta tropical masiva Amanda tocó tierra durante el fin de semana, inundando ríos y destruyendo casas y propiedades de personas que ya enfrentan mucha hambre en su día a día.
Entre los muchos afectados, hay aproximadamente 350 familias viviendo en los Cantones San Jerónimo Los Planes y Santa Isabel de Nejapa en El Salvador - dos cantones en el volcán que están justo en el lindero de la Libertad y San Salvador. El único servicio básico que tienen es luz eléctrica - no hay ni siquiera agua potable. La realidad de estas personas es muy dura y necesitan mucha ayuda, más aún durante estos tiempos.
Pedimos de su ayuda (cualquiera que puedan brindar) para ayudar a estas comunidades. Los fondos de sus donaciones se les serán transferidos a nuestros compañeros basados en El Salvador para ser usados en víveres. Adicionalmente, parte de los fondos será usado en materiales de construcción (letrinas, madera, láminas) para mejorar los hogares de los habitantes más necesitados (cuyas casitas estén más dañadas o en peor estado).

Since they do not have drinking water, during the winter they collect rainwater and use it for their needs. In the summer, they depend on pipes provided by the municipality.

Ya que no tienen agua potable, en invierno recogen el agua lluvia y esa utilizan para sus necesidades. en verano, dependen de pipas que les proporciona la municipalidad.
They use plastic to try to "waterproof" the slopes on the edge of their houses and thus prevent land from falling on them or their house from collapsing ...

Usan plástico para tratar de "impermeabilizar" los taludes al borde de sus casas y así evitar que les caiga encima tierra o que su casa se les derrumbe...
