Neil Jangula and Donna Mayer COVID Recovery fund

First of all, we want to extend our hearts to any and all families, and individuals that have been affected in any way from the COVID-19 pandemic. We would like to make you aware of how this terrible disease changed a family in what seemed like an instant. This occurred right in our own backyard so to speak, right here in Medicine Hat, AB and could have  happened to any one of us as they always practiced the  required protocols as advised by Alberta Health Services.

Please let me introduce you to Donna Mayer, and her partner, Neil Jangula, who are on the far left of attached photo. They unfortunately contracted COVID around Christmas of 2020. This was traced back to a visit
Neil had with his father in an extended care facility, who was also
COVID positive. John Jangula was quickly victimized by this disease, and passed away on Dec 31, 2020.

During this short period of time both Donna and Neil showed symptoms, and Neil  was admitted to the hospital on December 28, 2020. Even though Neil was aware  of the passing of his father, he was now in a battle of his own. This journey saw him being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit by January 5th, 2021, in which he was sedated, and put on a ventilator for 23 long days. Leaving his family in a state of shock, pain, and uncertainty.

During this time, Donna, although feeling the affects of this illness as well was able to remain at home. However, on Jan 3, 2021, she also became too ill and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. She was quickly admitted to ICU on Jan 6, where she was also sedated and put on a ventilator, where she remains to this day.

This has put an enormous strain on their families. It has placed their children in a precarious situation, leaving them in charge of every aspect of their parents lives, with no time to prepare.

Neil was subsequently released from the ICU on Feb 1, but will remain in hospital for an undetermined time and has now begun his long road to recovery.  He will more than likely never be able to return to work in his previous capacity as he has lost a significant amount of muscle mass and has extensive damage to his respiratory system.

Donna remains sedated and in ICU. Her road to recovery will be prove to be even more problematic due to an underlying Interstitial Lung Disease, Lupus, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

These circumstances, which could have happened to any of us, has left this family in dire need. There is no time line for Neil or Donna to return to work, if ever! Plus the ongoing costs, and eventual equipment needed for rehab is sure to be extremely costly to maintain any type of normalcy for them going forward.

We are hoping to negate some of these costs to enable Neil and Donna to be able to focus their energy on regaining their physical, emotional, and psychological health and strength through this long process.

We thank you all in advance for your support, and hope and pray for health for each and every one of you throughout your days. GOD BLESS!
