Mom and I went to Cancun on Sunday (November 12) to spend a few days to celebrate my 60th birthday, which is on the 20th. We had such a great time until Tuesday afternoon, when Mom (who is 79) took a terrible fall and broke her wrist and hip.
We were transported by ambulance to a hospital in downtown Cancun, and while I did purchase Travel Insurance, the $15,000 that they paid toward the Air Ambulance we had to have to get her home for surgery was not the full story.
Mom had to put nearly $14,000 on credit cards in order to be flown home. I’m so glad I bought the trip insurance, but the out-of-pocket $14,000 for someone who only has Social Security is astronomical.
She had surgery last Friday, and was transferred to Mt Ascutney rehab facility on Monday, where she will spend a couple weeks getting Physical, Occupational, and Recreational Therapies to help her regain independence.
i would like to help her defray the Air Ambulance expense.
