Unexpected Funeral Costs

Early last Sunday, my brother passed away at the young age of 32. After receiving so many generous offers for financial support through this unexpected and difficult time, I decided to set up this page. We only discovered my brother’s drug addiction a few months ago, and since then he became a serious fighter and was determined to beat this. We saw his heartbreak and learned how easily addiction can both start and spiral out of control. He had a goal of eventually becoming a sponsor to help his friends struggling with addiction and to start focusing his life on taking care of others after helping himself. Sadly, resources aren’t what they should be, so it’s been a costly and arduous endeavor trying to even get help.. and unfortunately due to not meeting the criteria for recommendation to enter a long term full time rehab (meaning he didn’t have legal charges or prior overdoses on his record), he was instead released from a shorter treatment program last Friday and expected to start an outpatient program Monday.. leaving the weekend home with no help which is partly why he wanted to go straight to a long term setting. Additionally, Medicaid doesn’t pay for much. Friday he went to a meeting before even coming home.. but he quickly started losing the struggle and relapsed, and tried getting into another detox or anywhere all day Saturday. He even purchased a medication to curb urges. Sadly, no place of help takes patients on weekends and he ended up losing the struggle for good.. Kevin was one of the kindest, gentlest, sweetest human beings with a heart of gold and smile that lit up the room. He loved his family and never wanted to hurt them or burden them financially. Once again, it was the overwhelmingly generous offers that led me to set up this page to aid my family. Any help is deeply appreciated. If you are someone affected by addiction, hopefully you plan to take action like we do- start writing letters to your government, raise awareness, donate to treatment options.. this epidemic needs major support.
