Navan RFC is County Meath's most successful senior rugby club with 24 teams in total, including all underage grades from Under 6 to Under 18, Under 20s, adult teams for men and women, and our senior men's team who are in Division 1B of the All-Ireland League. We also have the thriving Blue Dragons Tag rugby team for kids with intellectual and learning disabilities.
We are a community-based organisation approaching our centenary year, making a strong and consistent contribution to the people of the community - for example we are currently hosting a HSE COVID-19 testing centre on club grounds, and many of our members are actively involved in the Meath Volunteer Centre, helping out in our community during the COVID-19 emergency.
Unfortunately the COVID-19 restrictions brought our 2019/2020 season to a sudden and premature end, and this has impacted several events which would have been vital sources of funding for the club. This includes our principal fundraiser for the season, Lip Sync Broadway, which had been planned for April 10th. We were also due to host a number of AIL matches and related social functions like the ever-popular pre-match lunches.
The off-season from May to August is usually a time when we have little or no revenue but with significant expenses for maintenance of the pitches and the clubhouse facilities. Generally the club will have made financial provision for this period but, like the Spanish Inquisition. nobody expected the COVID-19 lockdown.
Furthermore the start of each new season brings an increase in operating costs (equipment, kit, light, heat, more pitch maintenance, etc.) and at this time there is no certainty for any club about when the new season might start. Any delay to the new season will delay most of our revenue streams, even though we will still have our fixed costs.
We need your help to get through this challenging financial period.
Please donate what you can, and please pass this message on to anyone who is or has been involved in Navan RFC past and present - whether as adult players, parents of underage players, those in Navan or elsewhere, in Ireland or abroad. Basically anyone who has great memories of playing for (or maybe even against!) Navan RFC.
Any help you can give will be deeply appreciated, and will help the club to be in a stronger position for the resumption of rugby activities when it is safe to do so.
