Car Accident - Emergency Fundraiser

Spende geschützt

Hello.  My name is Nate Skrzypczak. As of Sunday, 10/29/17, I no longer have a car.

--- About Me ---
I’m an adjunct instructor of philosophy and biology—teaching is my biggest passion. However, adjuncting is not stable employment (we are university lecturers that are not offered full-time work). Since the pay is so low, virtually all adjuncts have to work multiple schools. (I teach at South University and Barry University, and I have just been hired at Palm Beach State College and Indian River State College.)

I have two master’s degrees, nine years of experience, glowing reviews, and none of the 20+ full-time positions I applied to in the past year have offered an interview. To try and make ends meet as an adjunct I teach at schools across three counties. To be blunt, adjunct instructors are the exploited labor of academia—no living wage, benefits, or job security.

For more information on this crisis in academia, read here, or another article here .

---What happened---
Early Sunday morning, 10/29/17, I was driving home around 1am in heavy Florida rain. I was cruising with the flow of traffic at maybe 40 miles an hour. What happened next is a bit of a blur. Passing through a construction zone, my car hydroplaned, and I crashed into a concrete barrier. There were no injuries, but the car was totaled (and I can only afford liability insurance, not collision).

In an instant, my Honda Civic was worth $125 to the junker.

Before this crash, I already couldn’t make rent without assistance. With two maxed credit cards and 10s of thousands of interest-accruing student debt, this is not a blow I can weather.

---Moving Forward---
With my recent hiring at PBSC and IRSC, my finances will improve (though neither job starts until January). To work, I need a car. To live in South Florida (esp. with a dog), I need a car. As many of you know, I am a people-pleaser. To that end, I loathe asking for money--I don’t want to be a burden. But I need help. I am not looking for a hand-out, I am drowning.

Every dollar helps.  Thank you for reading.
