Our Hero: Natalie's Battle with Brain Cancer

My name is Sarah Pyle. I am asking for your support helping my sister, Nicole Rimel and her family in my niece's battle with cancer. Here is her story... Natalie is an 11 year old, beautiful, fun loving and sweet girl whose life changed in April of 2019. No child should have to endure what Natalie is going through. Natalie was 1st diagnosed with an Optic Pathway Glioma. This caused her optic nerve to deteriorate and she suffered some vision loss. She conquered a year of chemotherapy and bravely, without complaint won that battle. Natalie and her family felt very blessed to have overcome that. Natalie was looking forward to having some normalcy back in her life but sometimes God has other plans for us . In June 2020 Natalie's MRI scan showed a new area of concern. After a month of monitoring it, the doctor recommended that Natalie get a craniotomy/biopsy. The results showed that it was another tumor.  As you can imagine, her family was devastated. This time it was a much more aggressive tumor. It is an Anaplastic Astrocytoma grade 3,  which is a malignant tumor that basically attacks cells in the nervous system. Because of this, she has lost motor function on the right side of her body along with some memory loss and confusion. Because the type of treatment Natalie requires is not offered in New Mexico, the family will have to travel to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas for 6-8 weeks. This is an exceedingly difficult time for Natalie and her family, just dealing with the diagnosis. Natalie also has a brother who is a senior in high school this poses a challenge for the family because it will require more travel back-and-forth so they can help maintain some normalcy for him as well.  They will also be facing other challenges like medical bills, travel and relocation costs while still trying to maintain their everyday bills, all while not being able to work.
