"I've always wanted to do the Mongol Derby"
"Really?! Me too, but couldn't find anyone half mad enough to apply with me"
"Wanna give it a go, see if we get in?"
"Mate, why not."
And that was the starting conversation that brings us to where we are now, just 8 months out from the adventure of a lifetime and the ultimate bucket list adventure and test of endurance - the 2021 Mongol Derby.
We are Jess Di Pasquale (Katherine) and Natalie Bell (Darwin). Life long mates (and pony club rivals!), we are both born and bred in the Territory and have both spent most of our 30 odd years on the planet on and off a horses back. And a good portion of that riding and training together, despite the 300km distance.
We were accepted into the Mongol Derby in early 2020 and have been mentally (and emotionally!) preparing and physically training to take on the the toughest horse race in the world.
This page will share our journey, the challenges and the triumphs, as we lead up to the race as well share the links so you can follow our race through the steppe. It will also be an opportunity to fundraise and raise awareness for two very important causes;
- Sock it to Sarcoma - in recognition of our Stevie girl, who fought a battle tougher than any steppe, and who would've been our third musketeer on this adventure.
- Steppe and Hoof - whose objective is to support the herders and their animals and work to save the unique traditions that are part of the Mongolian nomadic lifestyle.
It will also be our way of acknowledging and thanking our sponsors - it costs a pretty penny to participate in the Mongol Derby, and we couldn't get there without them.
Thanks for sharing our journey. Time to buckle up, cause our mad Mongolian adventure is only just getting started.

"In 1224 man of the millennium Chinggis Khaan set up the world’s first long-distance postal transmission system. Using a massive network of horse stations – ‘morin urtuus’ in Mongolian – his hardy messengers could gallop from Kharkhorin to the Caspian sea in a number of days. For ten days each August, the Mongol Derby recreates this legendary system, building a network of urtuus at 35km intervals along the entire thousand kilometre course." The Adventurists:
