Drifters/Beyond the Edge/Boston Commons Assistance

Commercial Industrial Construction wants to help raise funds for those hourly wage earners who are losing income due to businesses being damaged and closed following the devastating tornado that hit Nashville/Davidson County and counties east of us. We wanted to focus on assisting those who will not be able to return to work at small businesses for weeks or who may have just lost a job because the business they worked for was completely destroyed, such as happened with Burger Up.  We are a Nashville-based company in operation since 2003. We work with these businesses,  we visit these business, we take our clients to these businesses. The food & beverage, retail, and hospitality industries are integral in Nashville, and as a locally-owned and operated company, we want to give back to the community.

We were recently connected with the general manager for three East Nashville restaurants all closed by the tornadoes: Drifters, Beyond the Edge, and the recently branded Boston Commons Seafood & Sushi (formerly Batter'd & Fried Boston Seafood House). In connecting with him, we learned they had 70 employees not on salary who were affected by the closures. Some were able to find work right away, as area businesses called and invited these employees to come work in an area usually short of hospitality workers. Others remained out of work. Then, COVID-19 began to hit every restaurant in town, and the needs of these employees grows.

In partnering with one restaurant group to identify their employees in need and to be the sole beneficiary, we are ensuring that the funds get to where they are needed, and we can tap into the fans of these specific locations and friends and family of the employees to get more help into the hands of those who need it.

Most families in America can't financially bear to lose one week's income, and these are the some of most vulnerable affected as they have to figure out how to put food on the table and cover their bills. The effects can last for years, as credit card bills pile up for those lucky enough to have them, and those who have no way to cover expenses must find help.

When emergencies happen, businesses have insurance to assist with rebuilding or paying off debts. Their hourly employees, unless covered by something like Aflac, have no such recourse. These include servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, hospitality workers, and retail store employees. They may not have lost their home, but they have lost their income. We recognize the wonderful funds like Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee  who are working to consolidate fundraising to distribute to charities to provide emergency assistance. We hope to fill the gap for those who have no other source of income and no recourse for their lost wages. These are the folks who make Nashville such a fun place to live and visit: please remember them as they work to pay rent and put food on the table until they find new jobs.

Our goal is a general goal of $500 per affected employee to assist with food and housing costs, but all funds donated will be distributed to the employees who are in need following this tornado.

If you've ever visited Nashville, eaten in one of our restaurants, shopped in our stores, or celebrated something special here, please consider a donation to keep Nashville vibrant. CIC is a commercial contractor: we can restore the buildings. Let's help restore some lost income to those who need it!
