Nashawn Brooks Funeral Costs and Memorial

Donation protected
On the morning of June 10, 2020, we lost a teammate and a brother, Nashawn Brooks, to a horrible accident.  Nashawn, a rising sophomore, was with the team for only a year.  However, within that year he left a mark on every single person that was lucky enough to call him a teammate and a friend.

This loss has shaken every individual connected to Nashawn, from Wagner Football and the Wagner community at large, the Irvington Fire Department and his hometown of Irvington.  We would like to bring together every community that Nashawn has impacted and support the Brooks family during this difficult time.

Nashawn cared deeply about those around him.  He was a cadet with the Irvington Fire Department throughout high school.  He was also an incredibly talented athlete.  At Irvington HS, he was a standout in both football and wrestling and won the IHS Athlete of the Year award in 2019.  At Wagner, he was expected to become a major piece of the team, described by his fellow linebackers as someone with incredible potential and an equally incredible drive.  He was looking forward to seeing the team again this August and an expanded role on the team this Fall.

As attested to by his friends and family at his vigil at IHS, Nashawn’s work ethic was clear as day, he never let circumstances define him and he never let something bad ruin his day.  He was raised with the motto, ‘you’re bigger than where you come from.’ Nashawn believed this and remained positive as he surpassed goal after goal.  He extended this belief to the others around him. Nashawn saw the best in everyone.  His positivity was a bright light which attracted everyone who was lucky enough to see it.

Nashawn was taken far too early, however, his impact on all of us will last for generations.  It is up to us to continue his legacy and remember him as he was.

No father should ever lose his son.  Just as COVID has affected us all, it has caused great financial difficulties for the Brooks family.  Nashawn’s father Reggie, a single dad, lost his job due to the pandemic. Nashawn leaves behind his father and a teenage brother, Nazamir.

On behalf of all of the people Nashawn has impacted and for his family, we ask that you please consider donating in honor of Nashawn.

Anything you can give will help to ease the financial burden on the Brooks family as they bury Nashawn.  Excess funds will go towards his younger brother Nazamir's college education.

Your donation of any amount will help us build up the legacy that Nashawn began.  In addition, we would also ask that you please share his GoFundMe page.
