4/6/26 Raffi has had his operation and is recovering. It was decided (following a CT scan on 3/6) that abdominal surgery would be his best option the next day, allowing for blood and meds to be administered prior.

He has been a trooper and the surgery was a success. The anaesthetic is hitting him hard so even hours after he’s still pretty dopey which is giving all the nurses lots of snuggle time!!

I don’t know where to begin in my thanks, but every single one of your contributions have helped save Raffi’s life.

Please keep your fingers and paws crossed and pray to whatever being you believe in for him to just make the next few days.

His left side of liver has never had blood flow so hopefully it can handle and adapt to this HUGE change. I have been so impressed with Royal (Dick) Vet for small animals, they have communicated constantly and even sent pictures last night to re-assure Robbie.

UPDATE: Raffi is booked in for his lifesaving operation with University Royal (Dick) Vet School for small animals on 3/6/26. He now requires immediate, urgent, lifesaving surgery to remove a close an intrahepatic shunt within his liver, which he was born with. This is a complex and highly specialised operation and he will require significant aftercare and vet visits to check the toxin levels within his blood. As a (rather) large breed the risk of complications is much higher.

I have always had a full lifetime coverage insurance plan via Agria but still have to pay 20% of total cost. Unfortunately as a single Mum with health issues and an ASN son I do not have a huge amount of expendable cash. The cost of the operation is expected to be £8,500 and he will then be required to be in Intensive Care Unit for approx 3 days leading to a forecast total of £10,500-£12,000

I have been so touched by all the donations, some of which have already been used for ongoing vet visits and specialised food over the last year, which has kept him healthy whilst allowing the annual plan to renew.

Robbie, Raffi and I would be most grateful if you could once again help us with a few pennies or pounds to cover this next hurdle. Raffi is such a vital and important part of our wee family, he sits on Robbie when he is overstimulated and licks him senseless during a meltdown, turning tears into laughter. For me he is my snuggle bug, always there and providing the support and unfailing love that only a special pet can.

I am a responsible owner and have a lifetime plan with Agria - I just never expected to have these complications and maxed his policy out twice before he was 3!

I have already used over £600 for vet fees and blood tests to keep Raffi healthy enough to keep going until his operation.

I absolutely hate to ask for help but I’m really struggling. I’m a single mum to a child with additional needs and have very little spare cash.

Thistle Vets (Edinburgh) have kindly let me pay in instalments, but Dick Vet requires full payment within 3 months and won’t treat Raffi unless I prove I can cover the cost.

Raffi, my 19-month-old rescue pup, had severe complications after neutering. An ulcer (from anti-inflammatories) ruptured, causing septic peritonitis. He needed a 5-hour emergency surgery at Thistle Vets and a week long stay at Dick Vets.

Weeks later the same symptoms of not eating or drinking happened again, but this time he was howling in pain. He was in and out of Thistle Vet for urgent treatment for 3 days (Fri, Sat & Sun) before space finally opened up at Dick Vet Hospital.

They discovered he has a porto/intahpactic shunt in his liver, meaning all blood is bypassing his liver and not filtering out the toxins, this caused his immune system to attack itself resulting in additional condition of immune led polyarthropaphy. Without surgery it will be a life limiting condition.

I do have lifetime a life time insurance policy with Agria, but in addition to £105 excess (in small print I’m responsible for 20% of all bills) This has added up to more than I can manage (£4K). I never imagined my young dog would need such extensive care, but I couldn’t let my son—who has autism and ADHD—lose his best friend.

Unfortunately, unless I can clear this bill and show I can cover (the excess of) next surgery costs, Raffi can’t get the life-saving surgery he needs.

This is absolutely a last resort and something I never thought I would have to do, but for my puppy and my boy I will beg and ask for help, I know when I am beat.

Should any funds raised not be used for Raffi’s medical costs they will be donated to Any Dog I’ll Do Rescue (without them there would be no Raffi or his 11 brothers and sisters) and it will be put towards the enormous fees they face each month.
