I absolutely hate to ask for help but I’m really struggling. I’m a single mum to a child with additional needs and have very little spare cash.

Thistle Vets (Edinburgh) have kindly let me pay in instalments, but Dick Vet requires full payment within 3 months and won’t treat Raffi unless I prove I can cover the cost.

Raffi, my 19-month-old rescue pup, had severe complications after neutering. An ulcer (from anti-inflammatories) ruptured, causing septic peritonitis. He needed a 5-hour emergency surgery at Thistle Vets and a week long stay at Dick Vets.

Weeks later the same symptoms of not eating or drinking happened again, but this time he was howling in pain. He was in and out of Thistle Vet for urgent treatment for 3 days (Fri, Sat & Sun) before space finally opened up at Dick Vet Hospital.

They discovered he has a Porto systemic shunt in his liver, meaning all blood is bypassing his liver and not filtering out the toxins, this caused his immune system to attack itself resulting in additional condition of immune led polyarthropaphy. Without surgery it will be a life limiting condition.

I do have lifetime a life time insurance policy with Agria, but in addition to £105 excess (in small print I’m responsible for 20% of all bills) This has added up to more than I can manage (£4K). I never imagined my young dog would need such extensive care, but I couldn’t let my son—who has autism and ADHD—lose his best friend.

Unfortunately, unless I can clear this bill and show I can cover (the excess of) next surgery costs, Raffi can’t get the life-saving surgery he needs.

This is absolutely a last resort and something I never thought I would have to do, but for my puppy and my boy I will beg and ask for help, I know when I am beat.

Should any funds raised not be used for Raffi’s medical costs they will be donated to Any Dog I’ll Do Rescue (without them there would be no Raffi or his 11 brothers and sisters) and it will be put towards the enormous fees they face each month.
