Nancy's Fight Against Lung Cancer

THE BACK STORY

On August 7, 2018 our mom was concerned because of a growing lump on her neck.  She went in to see her doctor he sent her for further tests.

On August 15, 2018  our mom went in for an ultrasound of the neck and the lungs. Then on August 17, 2018  our mom and dad received the news that it was potentially metastasized stage 3 lung cancer.  She was then referred to a pulmonologist.

August 27, 2018 our mom went in for a bronchoscopy which was a biopsy of the lungs in order confirm that it was cancer.  From that point she was referred to an oncologist.  During the meeting with the oncologist he confirmed our worst nightmare. It was inoperable stage 3 lung cancer.  She had multiple tumors in the right lung and a large tumor in the bronchial tube.  The oncologist then told us that our mom needed a PET Scan of the entire body and an MRI of the brain because he was worried that the cancer had spread throughout the body.

On September 12, 2018 she went in for the Pet Scan and the MRI.  We received the results the following morning.  We weren't prepared for the news we were about to hear.  The cancer had spread to both lungs, both breast and the brain.  It was now stage 4 cancer.   According to the oncologist it is no longer curable only treatable.  We are absolutely devastated at the thought of losing our mom.  She has always been our bestfriend, cheerleader and shoulder to cry on.

THE GO FUND ME

To take some of the burden and worries off of my mom and dad, my sister Julie & I  have decided to start a go fund me page on her behalf. This will help with all of our mom's medical expenses and prescriptions. This is just the beginning of a long battle that we are prepared to fight with every ounce of our being!  The plan is to keep the go fund me up and running until I leave back to Missouri, which will most likely will be the beginning of November at that point all the funds will be turned over to my mom.

THE PLAN OF ACTION

The oncologist informed us that the main concentration right now is on the brain and that our mom will have to endure 10-15 rounds of radiation for the tumor in the brain.  We will have more information this Monday when we meet the radiologist.    After that she will start chemotherapy for the rest of the body.  I will update as I get more information.
