Nancy's Medical Needs

Nancy Girard is a wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and passionate environmentalist who has been a voice for those who can not speak for themselves. She has dedicated her life to conserving and protecting the environment. She has also served others as member and Chair of the Gilmanton Planning Board for over 20 years, as well as many non-profit organizations.
In February of 2017, Nancy was diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Over the past year, Nancy has weathered many changes in her life and has never lost track of the values she holds dear. Garret, her husband of 37 years, and their two children, Kelsey and Cameron, have been supporting Nancy through these trying times. Unfortunately, medical expenses have begun to pile up. In honor of her love, compassion and service to the community, Nancy’s family is asking others for help and donations.
WHAT IS NEEDED
Nancy’s biggest need at the moment is a wheelchair accessible van. She is no longer able to walk or transition in and out of a standard vehicle. The van is needed so Nancy can get to her medical appointments and escape the monotony of being “house bound.”
Surprisingly and unfortunately, health insurance does not cover the costs to maintain safe access to basic hygiene needs such as showering when one can not stand or sit on one's own anymore. A roll-in, portable stand alone shower and pump had to be purchased out of pocket because the first floor bathroom was too small to convert to a wheelchair accessible room.
