Nancy L. Hemingway-Ryder died at the age of 59 on September 2, 2020 following her almost four-year battle with cancer. At her passing she was surrounded by her three loving daughters in New Gloucester, Maine.

Nancy was born in New Britain Connecticut on December 16, 1960, the daughter of Robert and Virginia (Sintau) Hemingway. She grew up with her four sisters and four brothers in Connecticut, with the family later residing in Sturbridge and Holland Massachusetts. Nancy studied chemical engineering at WPI, but found a lifelong passion as a Conservation Agent and Commissioner for a number of Massachusetts towns. For most of the last decade she found a loving home working for the town of Norwell. She loved nature, hiking, gardening and would often say that she felt the most peaceful while in the woods. She loved to travel, drink wine, and collect antiques. Her adventurous side was driven by her-self proclaimed gypsy soul.

In honor of Nancy, the Norwell Conservation Commission (NCC) is dedicating its new Wildflower field to her. The field will be named Hemingway Wildflower Field. The field is full of native flowers and will be a place to walk, reflect, and just be with the beautiful nature as Nancy always wanted. NCC will place a dedication plaque at the field, and will also be selecting a trail to dedicate on the newly acquired Carlton Property that Nancy always walked, worked, and enjoyed.

Nancy’s spirit is remembered by her three children, Nicole Wix (her husband Trey), Danielle Kogut (her husband Matthew), and Meghan Ryder; her siblings, David Hemingway, Padma Pali, Annie Lund, Sharon Grabosky, Steve Hemingway, Mark Hemingway, Alan Hemingway, Janine Ruggeri, and their significant others; her beloved grandchildren Ryder Wix and Harper Kogut; and her many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Virginia Hemingway.
