Nalani Young's Battle with Cancer
Our dear friend Nalani Young's life has been abruptly flipped upside down with a life threatening cancer.
I cannot think of an individual so motivated with genuine unconditional love who has given so much of herself to her community and all those she has come in contact with. Her husband David has alluded to some of that below but I will add that she was a recipient of the "Spirit of Orem Award at this year's Orem Summerfest 2019, which honors those who embody Orem's values of accomplishment, goodwill and service.
IT'S TIME SHE AND HER FAMILY BECOME THE RECIPIENTS OF AN EXTRA OUTPOURING OF GOODWILL AND LOVE! Whether you've had the privilege to know Nalani and receive of her unbounding love, please support them through this difficult time!
Here is a message from her husband David:
Nalani Young Pancreatic Cancer #OhanaFonoFight
On July 9th 2019 Nalani was diagnosed with pancreatic adenocarcinoma. She had been feeling some pain in her stomach and we decided to go to the doctors who thought we should get an ultrasound just to make sure. Later that morning upon returning home from the ultrasound within hours the doctor called and told us to go back for a CT scan. We completed the scan and went home not sure what to think. That evening the doctor’s office called asking if we could come in to talk, however we previously had scheduled family pictures (the one above) and asked if we could meet afterwards. There wasn’t a good time so we decided to talk on the phone. The doctor said, “I’m sorry but it appears you have pancreatic cancer.” Subsequent testing and a biopsy determined it as adenocarcinoma.
The love of my life, the mother of my 4 living children, is now fighting against a disease that has taken the life of her sister and mother. Nalani and I are no strangers to tragedy. December 5, 2014, we delivered our stillborn daughter and buried her 5 days later. She has come back from tragedy to where her smile lights up a room and her compassion for others is never ending. Now we are facing pancreatic cancer. Our children ages 14, 12, 9, 7 are hopeful that she can beat this and we have faith. Nalani is always willing to serve and help others. She works at an elementary school as the reading coordinator as well as serving the children as the primary president in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Nalani has never said no to anything. She is however finally saying no to something, NO to cancer. This is an aggressive cancer and she is currently undergoing chemotherapy for the next 4-6 months with surgery and radiation expected to follow. She recently completed her second round of chemo on August 19.
Your support will help pay for Nalani’s Medical Bills and treatment as we battle this. Our family came up with the slogan #OhanaFonoFight. This represents her mother, father, two sisters, brother in law and herself. No matter who you are, please do something for someone today, call them, send them a text, write a quick note, visit them, pray for them and let them know they are loved. Thank you for your support.
