Nakuru Youth Carpentry - Kenya
Donation protected
Background:
Since visiting Kenya twice in 2013 I have indentified a few people who do a fantastic work for people in the poorest parts of the city Nakuru in Kenya.
Their work varies from helping those who live at the dumping to orphans, challenged single mothers as well as the kids who grow up in the slum without getting a proper education or job opportunities. With very direct actions this is changing.
The cause:
An ongoing work among kids and youth in Nakuru, Kenya is ad hoc and also organized soccer for 20-30 kids from age 9-18, both girls and boys. The oldest boys have an organized team who plays in the local series.
As an extention of this, the team leaders want to offer the oldest kids job training, and after discussing a number of possible options we concluded to cooperate in running a carpentry specializing on doors and furniture in the start, giving the youth the opportunity to aquire skills as a carpenter and also generate some income to their family and their own early start in life.
This is what we now raise funds for - to make sure we can get a place for running this carpentry and have enough tools and material for keeping this going, until the point where it is self sustaining.
