Help Nadia fight cancer

Donation protected

Hi, I’m Nadia Kamran from Islamabad, Pakistan
and I’m a mother of two beautiful kids.

I was diagnosed with Stage 3, Triple Positive
breast cancer in December 2015.

After numerous MRIs, scans, tests and a biopsy, on Dec 21, 2015 I started chemo.

I received three rounds of chemo in order to
shrink the lump in my right breast after which I
had a mastectomy.

Following the mastectomy, I had 5 more rounds of chemo which was followed by 6 weeks of
radiation and then 17 rounds of Herceptin (very expensive medication) as my cancer was HER 2 positive.

The whole journey was physically, emotionally and financially a huge challenge. My work health
insurance covered a part of the treatment after which I had to self-fund. We used up our kids’
education funds and all our savings after which we started selling valuables such as jewellery.
Additionally we sold our house to meet the
expenses. We borrowed money from friends and paid it off in instalments.

In Feb 2017, I was able to rejoin full time work. I  started to repay the money I had borrowed. My son was now in medical school and my daughter in grade 10. I was glad that all was getting back
to normal. Although I developed lymphedema
after the mastectomy I was determined to get
back on my feet. I worked long hours which
caused my hand to swell and my fingers started going numb. I would elevate my arm when I got
home to relieve the swelling so I was fit to work
the next day

Overall, I felt positive and determined to lead a
normal life again.

In October 2019, my energy started to dip. I was breathless all the time. Having two PET scans
confirmed the cancer was back. This time there was fluid buildup in my lung.
The doctors drained the fluid three times. Each
time a litre of water was extracted from the lung. In Dec 19 chemo treatment started again. I have been off for a few weeks and can only work limited hours for now as I still don’t have energy to work full time.

The treatment suggested is again very expensive. This is stressful and worrying as I need to
support my kids’ education as well as pay for
ongoing treatment.
My husband works freelance and hasn’t had
much luck with providing financially to support
the family on his own.

The money will be spent mainly to purchase the costly targeted therapy I have been prescribed. It is called Ribociclib and it is an inhibitor of cyclin D1/CDK4 and CDK6, and is used for the treatment of certain kinds of breast cancer. I will keep you posted about my treatment and request you to keep me in your prayers.God bless you all

Thank you so much to you all for your generosity and kind wishes for me. My family and I are extremely grateful for your generous donations and I am overwhelmed by the messages, calls and prayers I received . My sincere gratitude to you all.

Thank you.

Message from Zara: My Aunty Nadia has asked me to set up this page on her behalf. I will be transferring her the funds from the go fund me account to help with the cost of her treatment.  Thank you all for your generosity and kindness.
