In September 2016, Dick retired from his position at the Coldwell Banker regional office. After exploring the Rhine River in Romania and Hungry, Dick returned home and had a massive stroke which left him unable to move, swallow and with only partial vision. As soon as possible, he began his challenging physical, occupational and speech therapy.
In March 2017, he was strong enough to have a new heart valve installed. Again, he started the grueling therapies that would allow him to function better until he fell and broke his hip in June 2017. After the partial hip replacement, he had again started the therapy regime so that he could manage to walk with assistance and struggle to speak as artfully as he had before.
Unfortunately, Medicare and BC/BS only pay for rehab for a designated number of weeks allowed. The therapy has stopped, but his wife Debbie has Dick at a gym five days a week trying to do the best that they can to maintain his current mobility. He is working on moving his right arm and leg and trying to increase his ability to speak. More is needed for Dick; Debbie could use some help too in assisting Dick.
The cost of a therapy session, whether it be physical, occupational, or speech therapy is approximately $100 per hour. Friends of Dick are asking for contributions so that he can at least maintain, if not progress toward increased mobility and communication. We are asking for help so that his quality of life can improve.
For decades, Dick was always generous with his time, providing assistance to whoever asked with a smile and an exuberance for life. We now are asking for your help so that his smile continues and his zest for life remains strong even with the challenges that he faces.
Thank you for your consideration.
