I am posting this for my stepdad who is taking care of my mom as her 24/7 nurse. He loves her so much, he would do anything for her:
My name is Dawid Piekarczyk. For 45 years I have been happily married to Joanna Piekarczyk. We had great moments together. We made all life decisions together. Now, due to my wife's poor health, I have to deal with everything. I am both a husband and a full-time carer for the sick and a housewife. We've spent more than half our lives together and it is very painful to see her like this.
In February my wife suffered a severe stroke which made it impossible for her to walk or even stand and keep her balance. After 2 months in hospitals, I was able to transport her back home by ambulance. Thanks to the support and work of a physiotherapist, as well as my daily involvement in rehabilitation, my wife started to get up and walk a bit. Unfortunately, as we live on the second floor and have four flights of stairs to our apartment, leaving the house is basically impossible.
Unfortunately, during her last stay in the hospital, she was also discovered to have dementia which is rapidly worsening. Her short-term memory is only 1 or 2 minutes. I find it devastating that I can't talk to her like I used to. There are fewer and fewer things we can do together. Joanna is basically unable to participate normally in everyday life. I can't leave her alone.
I have been told that the end result of dementia is that she will not finally recognize me. It breaks my heart, but I swore that we would be "healthy and sick" together. I won't leave her when she needs me the most.
Two months ago, she had a seizure, the consequence of which was that she was unable to walk or balance again. She needs therapy and regular rehabilitation again.
In addition, drug prices have increased dramatically, and as a result of the attack, my wife is incontinent and now needs diapers three times a day.
The total costs are beyond our capabilities. The National Health Fund refunds a small part of them, most not. I want to ensure a decent life for my wife, I want to continue caring for her as best as possible. It will be very difficult without your help. Therefore, I am asking you for support.
