Harmoni was born on June 15th, 2018. Shortly after birth she started having tummy issues. Trips to the ER in late July 2018 resulted in a possible diagnosis of GERD, and a referral to see a gastrointestinal specialist (GI) at valley childrens hospital in Madera, Ca.
On August 9th, 2018 Harmoni had her first appointment. A treatment plan was developed, and it seemed as if answers and relief were finally on their way.
August 15th, 2018. Harmoni had her 2 month well baby check with her pediatrician. Due to concerns of her weight loss, a follow up with GI was scheduled for the next morning.
August 16th, 2018. Harmonie's appointment with her Gastrointestinal specialist, was followed up with her being admitted to Valley Childrens Hospital.
August 17th, 2018. Bloodwork had showed a continuous drop in Harmoni's Hemoglobin and a blood transfusion was necessary.
August 21st, 2018. Preliminary diagnosis of a rare disorder: Porphyria. Porphyria is a group of disorders caused by an overaccumulation of porphyrin which helps hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen in the blood. *awaiting lab results to confirm which strain.
This journey is just beginning, and my intention is to help ease the financial strain for Harmoni's family that will occur with this current hospital stay, and future travel costs to meet with a specialist in porphyria disorders.
