Bucks Medical Bills

Four days ago we decided to take my happy go lucky HEALTHY German Shepherd to the river to play. He spent a good amount of time trying to drink the water, completely ignoring us telling him to stop. The next two days he went from playful and goofy to completely lethargic and half alive. He started off vomiting everything in his stomach, then once his stomach was empty he was puking up yellow/green/black slime. He would gulp down water constantly just to throw it back up. Things got extreme to scary when he went limp and lost all of his ability to stand and even hold his head up. He got to the point where we thought he was dead because his head plopped back down when we lifted it, he stopped blinking, and his breathing slowed drastically. At that point we carried him to the car and rushed him to the vet. Those of you that know me know just how important this dog is to me. He’s not just a pet, he’s my child, my service dog, and my best friend. After getting to the vet and running some tests they found that he not only had an infection he got from the river and a 104.5 fever which is insanely high for a dog, and a accumulation of gas and stool backed up, but the salt from the river literally sucked all of the water from his body. His red blood cell count was extremely elevated along with his sodium. He not only had no fluid in his blood but he was losing fluid to his brain at that point. The vet is having to keep him hospitalized on a slow IV drip to prevent his brain from getting too much fluid at once (which will cause him to have seizures, go brain dead, and die) and give him antibiotics to fight this nasty infection. The next couple days are critical.

Unfortunately we we do not have the immediate funds to cover these vet bills. Especially with my husband deploying and having to get him back to Colorado in a week. I am not the type of person to ask for help, but at this point I need it. Had I not taken him to the vet he wouldn’t have survived. I want to thank every one so so much for their continued support and prayers. This has been the hardest and most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to deal with.
