Help Daniel Go to Violin School

Donation protected
Our son Daniel Jones has been selected to attend Curtis Institute of Music Summerfest this summer. This is a huge deal! However, he will only be able to attend if he can raise the tuition amount by April 15. Tuition is $5,475 plus travel expenses. In all he needs at least $6,500 to cover expenses.

You can give as a tax deductible gift through the Starkville Area Arts Council, but indicate that the money is for Daniel and Summerfest.  SAAC, 101 South Lafayette Street, Suite 18,  Starkville, Mississippi 39759

I think it is important to understand that Daniel is special and this is not just another summer camp. When Daniel was five, he begged to learn how to play the violin. I mean, what kid wants to play the violin?! He was persistent (and thank goodness) because it quickly became apparent that he is an extremely gifted musician.

Now at the age of 16, his passion has turned into a desire to pursue a career in classical music and he hopes to one day either play in an orchestra or be a conductor. Therefore, he has auditioned to attend a summer program at the Curtis Institute of Music. What is this Institute you say? Below is a description of the school and the opportunity Daniel will have.

The Curtis Institute of Music educates and trains exceptionally gifted young musicians for careers as performing artists on the highest professional level. During the summer, Curtis opens its doors to provide musicians and music lovers opportunities to explore classical music and experience the Curtis Institute of Music’s “learn by doing” philosophy.

In 2015, acceptance to the Young Artist Summer Program of Curtis Summerfest is based on a review by our faculty committee. Daniel was accepted to the Young Artist Summer Program from a competitive group in the earliest round of applications. This offers him the opportunity to work with faculty of the highest caliber, including members of Curtis’s own faculty, faculty of the Juilliard School, as well as musicians from The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, among many other distinguished organizations. If he should be able to attend Daniel would have the opportunity to be selected to perform in a masterclass with Ida Kavafian, Nina von Maltzahn Chair in Violin Studies at Curtis Institute of Music. He would also be eligible to compete in a concerto competition, the winner of which will perform their piece with the full Young Artist Summer Program orchestra.
